Petite Facts, Fashion and Fun

Hey to all the Petite women!! We are starting to make a difference and you all should be as excited as I am. I was thinking of writing a blog with just facts today when I quickly discovered in my investigation that many, many more "main stream" media outlets were reporting the business advantage of going after a huge market! and O Magazine did a whole section on petite fashion and dressing. Vogue Magazine used a petite for there cover recently, and of course Bella Petite Magazine has always lead the crusade for the petite fashionisatas. It is refreshing to see that ideas are moving forward and the industry is taking notice. This is huge change since just a few years ago. For all of you that don't realize..The fashion industry is missing a market estimated to be 10 billion if they marketed to petite women. Petite women make up 70% of the female world population. Petite women are 5' 5" or shorter. I have always thought Wow if I was a designer I would want to market my clothes to the biggest group possible or at very least I wouldn't want to exclude them. Seems to me to just make sense. Gradually they are figuring this out. Yeah for all of us!!

So what does this all mean for us (The Petite Women of the World) Well for me it means I can actually buy clothes off the rack more often. Most petite women know the drudgery of clothes shopping. I think we can all relate to buying an item of clothing only to have  to also pay for it to be tailored so that you can wear it. Which means in pants you have to bring up the crotch, adjust the pockets, hem the length, and lower the waist. By the time you get done with all of that, it is less expensive to have someone design and make it for you specifically. In tops and blouses you have to adjust the distance between the shoulder and breasts so that the arm pits don't hang to your waist. The same thing in many dresses unless you opt for strapless than all you have to do is adjust the waist so that it doesn't hit your hips. I think we have all tried on a dress only to find there was seemingly no waist in it...surprise lift it up from the shoulders and magically a waist appears. It is about time that we have options and it is awesome that through the voices of many Fashion is starting to listen. Baby steps forward but steps just the same.

For the Petite Model this is huge news as more and more designers and clothing manufacturers move to cater to the largest population segment. They will need models to advertise that fact! I am seeing more and more Petite models excelling in the fashion and entertainment industry.I am proud to be among this awesome group. I am honored to represent Petite models at Derby Fashion Week in April.  Increasing amounts of opportunity are being created for all of use. Everyone has a place and the world is noticing that......Petite Girls Rock!!!!!
