Traveling on Whole 30

This past weekend I was in Memphis. Traveling on Whole 30, I thought would be next to impossible. It was easier than I expected. Almost every place cooked their food in vegetable oil, which according to book is ok if you have to. Restaurants were very accommodating when I asked how something was prepared and what they put on it. Once I heard what they do, I would ask for everything plain. I ate mostly grilled chicken and plain hamburgers. It was not very exciting but it did the trick. Veggies was slightly more difficult. I typically went with a house salad, no cheese, no dressing, and no croutons. That unfortunately, only left lettuce and typically one tomato. It did not taste great but I forced myself to eat some of it. I knew I needed to get my veggies in. At the Outback, I was able to get steamed broccoli, squash, and carrots. They normally put butter on them, I asked for no butter but when it came out, it had butter on it. I grabbed the waitress, and she brought it back and brought out steamed veggies without the butter. It was good, I needed a veggie change and they tasted great. Breakfast was a little harder for me because the hotel I stayed at was not very accommodating. They ended up being able to make me poached eggs. They were ok but not great. It did the trick for breakfast. While traveling I brought food with me. I brought compliant beef jerky, Lara bars, almonds, and oranges. It was my meals on the planes. They worked very well for me. One thing I have learned about this plan is that you need to plan. If you don't plan that's when you get into trouble. Planning prevents me from being hungry and gives me options when I cannot find food I can eat. This plan is limiting but I am thinking of the results and ending. This week I am home so it is back to meal planning today and preparing for my week ahead. I also am feeling more confident which I feel is coming out in my work. I am always looking for ways to improve myself.

Stay Tuned for more of my experiences on Whole 30.

Beginning of Whole 30

Welcome 2016, this month most people will be executing their New Year's Resolutions. Each person is very different on what they want to do for the upcoming here. This year, I decided to not have a New Year's Resolution, but instead make short term goals all year. I decided that in January I would start this program called Whole 30. It's a diet program that cuts out sugar, processed foods, dairy, grains, and legumes. So, now you are wondering if you cut all that out, what do you eat? It's now time to get creative in the kitchen. Since, my schedule is rather crazy, I have to plan exactly what I will be eating and prep the week before. I sat down on January 1st and meal planned for the whole week. I started Whole 30 on January 2 and will be continuing it until January 31.

I am currently in week 1, and the book has been correct on how I would feel. The first day was easy. I didn't do much that day so I think that helped a lot. I ate the 3 meals and no snacks exactly what is recommended. For breakfast I ate two scrambled egg whites, one whole scrambled egg with a bell pepper, and 1/2 cup of blueberries. They kept me full and satisfied for awhile. Lunch I made a spinach salad, with shrimp, bell peppers, avocado, and a hard-boiled egg. For dressing, olive oil is approved so I put a little all over the salad. It was very good and I felt great about eating it. Dinner I had ground beef mixed with seasonings to make taco meat. Since, you cannot have grains on this diet, I rolled it up with veggies on top in a lettuce wrap. It was very good. After this day, I felt like I could do anything....that is until I woke up Sunday....

Day 2 Sunday January 3rd, was harder than day one. I woke up with a headache, but that didn't stop me, I had a shoot later on that day so I woke up ate breakfast the same as day 1. Since snacking isn't the best thing to do on this diet, I ate my lunch later than normal so that I wouldn't be as hungry or hungry at all in my shoot. For lunch I had left over lettuce wrap tacos. That actually held me till after the shoot. During the shoot, I didn't feel tired but I was starting to get hungry. Whenever I feel hungry now I just drink more water. It fills me for a little. The shoot went great and my energy levels were very high during this. That night, I made chicken breasts, asparagus, and a sweet potato. It was so good, it didn't even feel like I was on a special diet plan.

Day 3 Monday January 4th, woke up feeling rested, a little headache but nothing I couldn't handle. I switched up my breakfast and had poached eggs. For lunch, I still had left over meat from the lettuce wrap tacos so I ate that again. Here is where the problems started. On Monday's in the late afternoon through the late evening, I take acting and improve classes. Knowing this,  I packed dinner, all natural raw almonds, hard-boiled eggs, a clementine, and carrots. Well, it would have been great if I could have eaten it, unfortunately, on my 10 minute breaks I couldn't eat a lot. I ended up leaving around 10pm absolutely starving! I went home and made myself a sweet potato just so I could eat something and not go to bed hungry. I didn't have time to eat a full meal because I was very tired and like many of you know, I go to bed early.

Day 4 Tuesday January 5th, was the hardest day. It was the first day I did a full workout. I took a hot yoga class. The room is around 95 degrees and very humid. My pre-WO meal was just a piece a fruit and a hard boiled egg. During the class I felt so nauseous and so exhausted. I finished class feeling the exact same way. I normally do not get that when I do hot yoga, but my body is not quite used to the new way of eating. I went home and made eggs for breakfast like I have been having each day and I also, had a clementine. After breakfast, I felt a little better but was moving slow. I ended up going to dinner with a client. A huge fear of mine during this program was when I would have to eat out. Well, luckily the place I was at was very accommodating. They gave me a salad with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cucumber, avocado, and olive oil on the side with lemons. They also, made me a filet with no sauce, seasonings, or anything and it was very good. I do not eat a ton of red meat, but it was the easiest I could do at this place. I am now very hopeful for my trip this upcoming weekend.

Today is day 5, so far I am feeling great, my headache has subsided and I am less hungry. I am going to do a moderate workout today which I believe will be fine and make me feel even better. The time I am asleep is more restful and I do not wake up feeling tired. I haven't had any cravings yet, thank goodness. I am very excited to see how this weekend in Memphis goes. I will let you all know how it goes when I get back!!

2015 Oh what a year it has been!!

Now that we are approaching 2016, it is time for me to reflect back on the year and put plans for 2016 in place. 2015 has been a VERY Busy roller coaster ride kind of year.  Where to start ?.........

Professionally 2015 was a very good year. I continued to work a lot in the Romance Novel Industry and got to know more and more people at the conventions I attended. I can't tell you how nice it is to meet in person the people that have supported you in your career. From authors, to cover artists, photographers and other models. I am always thrilled an honored when someone chooses me to put on their masterpiece. Thank you everyone for all your confidence and support.  The Romance Novel Industry is one of the most supportive, welcoming groups that I have ever been a part of and I continue to look forward to more and more in 2016.

I also continue to move my commercial print work forward through my agency's as well as freelance and look forward to doing more and more in 2016. Some of the companies I have had the honor to work with are WeatherTech, Andis Industris, Top Golf, LA Tan and several more.  Who will I be working with me in 2016? always exciting to think about!!!!

Inbetween it all I was able to shoot and print out my Jax 2016 Calendar with the help of my good friend/photographer, Ralph Haseltine. Thanks Ralph without your help this wouldn't have been possible.  It is for sale if you are interested please message me!!

Acting was also doing well this year. I did commercials for both TV and Web. I also filmed on the hit Bravo TV Show "Below Deck" the final two episodes. Turns out they were the most watched episodes in the shows history!  I also have booked several commercial projects for early 2016. Can't wait to share them with you, when I can!

JAX TURYNA MARKETING AND PROMOTIONS

In addition I started a Marketing company specializing in Social Media Marketing. (I knew my college education would come in handy) It is something I love doing and as they say if you love all your work. You really never work!!! This has proven to be a great addition to my career. Thanks to the clients I have currently and look forward to adding more in the future!!

Personally this year was amazing and horrible all at the same time.  My Mom was diagnosed with Cancer. Something I wish on no one!! At the same time we found out that my brother and his wife were expecting twin baby girls. By the end of the year we have a much healthier Mom (currently cancer free) and two beautiful baby girls. What a roller-coaster of a year. Feeling so blessed at this point for everything!

2015 went fast and many plans for the future are underway. Stay tuned!!!! I wish everyone a very Happy Healthy and Prosperous 2016 Happy New Year!!!

Dating in 2015

I frequently get asked a lot of questions about dating,
so I figured I would put down what my beliefs are surrounding this topic.

I was raised very traditionally. As a result I have a specific set of expectations on dating. I guess they are very traditional. I do think once you get to know someone better and decided to continue to date them, you can approach it less formally.

What does that mean? Well basically, mean what you say and say what you mean. Treat your date with respect. Get to know them before you spend your time in group situations. Although hanging out in groups of friends is always fun, it doesn't allow to get to know your date and to really see if that person is right for you. My advise take the time up front and everything will fall into place in other situations.

Plan a date: tell the person you asked out you are important enough to come up with a plan, and mean enough to you to want to spend your time with them. The dating rules have gotten very blurry over the generations. But if you head back to more traditional times you won't go wrong and you will find your love life booming in a very positive direction with a quality partner. Treat everyone how you would like to be treated and show the world that.... Petite Girls Rock!!
