Welcome 2016, this month most people will be executing their New Year's Resolutions. Each person is very different on what they want to do for the upcoming here. This year, I decided to not have a New Year's Resolution, but instead make short term goals all year. I decided that in January I would start this program called Whole 30. It's a diet program that cuts out sugar, processed foods, dairy, grains, and legumes. So, now you are wondering if you cut all that out, what do you eat? It's now time to get creative in the kitchen. Since, my schedule is rather crazy, I have to plan exactly what I will be eating and prep the week before. I sat down on January 1st and meal planned for the whole week. I started Whole 30 on January 2 and will be continuing it until January 31.
I am currently in week 1, and the book has been correct on how I would feel. The first day was easy. I didn't do much that day so I think that helped a lot. I ate the 3 meals and no snacks exactly what is recommended. For breakfast I ate two scrambled egg whites, one whole scrambled egg with a bell pepper, and 1/2 cup of blueberries. They kept me full and satisfied for awhile. Lunch I made a spinach salad, with shrimp, bell peppers, avocado, and a hard-boiled egg. For dressing, olive oil is approved so I put a little all over the salad. It was very good and I felt great about eating it. Dinner I had ground beef mixed with seasonings to make taco meat. Since, you cannot have grains on this diet, I rolled it up with veggies on top in a lettuce wrap. It was very good. After this day, I felt like I could do anything....that is until I woke up Sunday....
Day 2 Sunday January 3rd, was harder than day one. I woke up with a headache, but that didn't stop me, I had a shoot later on that day so I woke up ate breakfast the same as day 1. Since snacking isn't the best thing to do on this diet, I ate my lunch later than normal so that I wouldn't be as hungry or hungry at all in my shoot. For lunch I had left over lettuce wrap tacos. That actually held me till after the shoot. During the shoot, I didn't feel tired but I was starting to get hungry. Whenever I feel hungry now I just drink more water. It fills me for a little. The shoot went great and my energy levels were very high during this. That night, I made chicken breasts, asparagus, and a sweet potato. It was so good, it didn't even feel like I was on a special diet plan.
Day 3 Monday January 4th, woke up feeling rested, a little headache but nothing I couldn't handle. I switched up my breakfast and had poached eggs. For lunch, I still had left over meat from the lettuce wrap tacos so I ate that again. Here is where the problems started. On Monday's in the late afternoon through the late evening, I take acting and improve classes. Knowing this, I packed dinner, all natural raw almonds, hard-boiled eggs, a clementine, and carrots. Well, it would have been great if I could have eaten it, unfortunately, on my 10 minute breaks I couldn't eat a lot. I ended up leaving around 10pm absolutely starving! I went home and made myself a sweet potato just so I could eat something and not go to bed hungry. I didn't have time to eat a full meal because I was very tired and like many of you know, I go to bed early.
Day 4 Tuesday January 5th, was the hardest day. It was the first day I did a full workout. I took a hot yoga class. The room is around 95 degrees and very humid. My pre-WO meal was just a piece a fruit and a hard boiled egg. During the class I felt so nauseous and so exhausted. I finished class feeling the exact same way. I normally do not get that when I do hot yoga, but my body is not quite used to the new way of eating. I went home and made eggs for breakfast like I have been having each day and I also, had a clementine. After breakfast, I felt a little better but was moving slow. I ended up going to dinner with a client. A huge fear of mine during this program was when I would have to eat out. Well, luckily the place I was at was very accommodating. They gave me a salad with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cucumber, avocado, and olive oil on the side with lemons. They also, made me a filet with no sauce, seasonings, or anything and it was very good. I do not eat a ton of red meat, but it was the easiest I could do at this place. I am now very hopeful for my trip this upcoming weekend.
Today is day 5, so far I am feeling great, my headache has subsided and I am less hungry. I am going to do a moderate workout today which I believe will be fine and make me feel even better. The time I am asleep is more restful and I do not wake up feeling tired. I haven't had any cravings yet, thank goodness. I am very excited to see how this weekend in Memphis goes. I will let you all know how it goes when I get back!!
